jacqi lee
works primarily with clay. by pinching, stretching, folding, and twisting the material in its wet, malleable stage, she creates delicate, abstract vessels and sculptures that verge on instability in their final, rigid form. some appear caught in mid-motion or threaten to collapse, but they manage to also find stillness and balance despite their precarious selves.
in making these forms, jacqi
explores her own experiences of vulnerability and reflects on the tension between human fragility and resilience, between desire for certainty and acceptance of inevitable uncertainty. she is interested in presenting moments when those seemingly opposite qualities exist together and allowing space for complexity.
